New Soul Calibur and Tekken games have been announced for Sony's PSP and are set for release later this year...

Namco Bandai has announced that its premier fighting game franchises, Tekken and Soul Calibur, will both appear on Sony's PSP later this year with Tekken 6 in the autumn and Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny in the summer.

The PSP will now join the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms that Tekken 6 has previously been slated for release on, with an IGN report specifying that this PSP version will feature ad hoc multiplayer for one-on-one fights and infrastructure support for players who want to upload ghosts online.

While this will be the second Tekken game to grace the PSP (after Dark Resurrection), Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny will mark the debut for Namco Bandai's series on the handheld and the publisher is reportedly planning a beginner friendly approach for this spin-off according to Gamespot.

Although it will be based on Soul Calibur IV gameplay, Namco Bandai is specifying that it will not be a port of last year's title. A new single-player mode is reportedly being developed that will act as an enhanced tutorial offering more than 80 exercise missions.

Other than that, all of the key features from Soul Calibur IV appear to have been included, such as Arcade, Character Creation, Survival, and Versus modes. These modes have been tweaked according to Namco Bandai though, as has Soul Calibur IV's new gameplay dynamics like critical finishes, armour destruction, and soul crush.

Thankfully, Yoda and Darth Vader will not be featured as playable characters in Broken Destiny, although a new character to the series called Dampierre has been announced.

i bet all the sony fanboys back in 2005 never thought the 360 would be so successful and still be ahead of the ps3 nearly 4 years later (nearly 3 for the ps3 uk) well we can call off the fanboy battle we have a winner, the Wii
