Four player brawler heading to Wii from the collaborators of Super Smash Bros Brawl...
The rumours were true: those heroes in a half shell are making a comeback in a Wii multiplayer brawler.
Commemorating the 25th anniversary in what Ubisoft promises to be a year of "shell-ebrations", the as-of-yet untitled Turtles game is currently in development at Game Arts, who collaborated during the early stages of Super Smash Bros Brawl. Currently there's no word on whether the rumours of ex-Team Ninja head Tomonobu Itagaki's involvement are true.
"We're really excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first TMNT(r) comic and we have a number of radical 'Shell-ebration' events planned for 2009," said Gary Richardson, CEO of Mirage Studios. "The awesome new video game that Ubisoft will release in 2009 is an important part of celebrating this Turtles milestone with fans around the world."
"There is no better tribute to the Turtles than the creation of a brand-new game that will help to launch the next 25 years of success," said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. "It's our pleasure to partner again with Mirage as part of the worldwide birthday celebration for the Turtles."
Despite earlier suggestions that the title is a Wii exclusive today's press release makes no such statement. When contacted an Ubisoft spokesperson provided some further clarification, claiming "I can confirm that as for now, this new TMNT videogame is only for the Wii."
Hmmm... some hope for fans of other systems then.

In the Nintendo Power magazine where this was officially and exclusively announced, both super smash and team ninja people are working on this title. It all sounds very interesting and I can't wait to play this when it comes out, though it's gonna be awhile.
