US reports suggest that the French publisher may well be clearing a path to a merger with Take Two Interactive...

Since the long-running saga between Electronic Arts and Take Two Interactive looks set to continue for some time, there's the obvious danger of it becoming quite stale news. This is why today's article in Forbes could spice up the story in the coming weeks.

According to the US business publication, Ubisoft could be positioning itself to succeed where EA has so far failed, by securing a merger with Take Two Interactive. Speaking to Forbes, one Californian analyst commented that since Ubisoft does a decent job in managing brands, "Take-Two developers would not have a problem at Ubisoft because they allow a decent degree of creative freedom."

Whilst Ubisoft doesn't have the same financial clout as EA, the speculation is that a merger, rather than a full blown acquisition, could be the way forward. None of the parties have yet issued a comment.

It's also worth pointing out that even if Ubisoft were to succeed with the plans, Electronic Arts would still profit, as the US publisher currently enjoys a stake in the French rival of about 20%. It's a rather tangled web...
