Supreme Commander Gets Ambient With amBX News

Gas Powered Games' RTS becomes the latest to sign to Philips' amBX enhanced experience...

Supreme Commander

Electronics giant Philips has today confirmed that Gas Powered Games' 2007 title Supreme Commander will feature functionality for amBX 'Ambient Experience' technology. The game will be the second title from THQ to be published with amBX functionality, following Broken Sword: Angel of Death earlier in 2006.

amBX technology is a system devised by Philips to create a more ambient experience when gaming or watching movies; as well as TVs, the company is also working on fans and furniture to further the brand.

"Gas Powered Games really are at the top of their game and having them on-board highlights just how seriously the development community is taking amBX, and that it is a 'must have' technology for new games as well as a tool for refreshing old games," commented Jo Cooke, Chief Marketing Officer, Philips amBX. "Supreme Commander, as our first real time strategy game, will see amBX really come into its element through all kinds of creative light, wind and rumble effects, bringing the battlefield right into the home."

"I 'got' amBX the moment I saw it - I really liked the way it added to the visual experience," commented Chris Taylor, Gas Powered Games. "I also liked feeling the wind in my face, it made the whole game experience more real. I think there is a lot of potential to have the experience 'underscored', so to speak, by having the high points (or low points) in the game accompanied by the various amBX effects."

We'll have more news shortly...

Largest map is not 81 square kilometers, but 81km x 81km, or just over 6500 square kilometers. This is about 40 times the size of Lichtenstein. Other than that, nice review.
