Supreme Commander Confirmed for Xbox 360 News

One of 2007's most critically acclaimed RTS titles is confirmed for release on Microsoft's next-gen console...

Supreme Commander

Gas Powered Games' Supreme Commander will make its entry onto the home consoles on the Xbox 360, according to a report on Gamasutra. The title is due to arrive in early 2008, but will be published by Aspyr rather than THQ (who were responsible for the PC game).

Supreme Commander on the Xbox 360 is due to ship with a range of new features for consoles gamers such as updated maps, a range of new units and some additional multiplayer modes for online play. The HUD and interface are also reported to be getting a makeover for their translation to the consoles, while a new strategic zoom feature will aid Xbox 360 gamers in either micro or macro managing their units.

This new console version will be co-developed with relatively unknown developers Hellbent Games. Supreme Commander's Lead Designer Chris Taylor (as well as CEO and Creative Director of Gas Powered Games) said of the relationship: "Aspyr's developer-friendly publishing environment delivers 100% on our vision for bringing Supreme Commander to the Xbox 360. We believe that we've raised the bar for RTS gaming on the PC and now, co-developing with Hellbent Games, we know that we can do the same on consoles. Hellbent brings a talented, veteran team together to deliver Supreme Commander to the Xbox 360 platform."

This follows comments made last month by Taylor, the legendary developer of cult classic games such as Total Annihilation (Supreme Commander's indirect predecessor), where he revealed that the RTS title would be coming to the consoles. Although he would not confirm it at the time, he strongly hinted at the Xbox 360 as the likely console destination for the game.

Largest map is not 81 square kilometers, but 81km x 81km, or just over 6500 square kilometers. This is about 40 times the size of Lichtenstein. Other than that, nice review.
