Japanese publisher confirms shipments figures for the latest iteration of the iconic beat-em-up franchise...
Capcom has today announced that it has shipped two million units of Street Fighter IV, which arrived across Europe on Friday. The beat-em-up, the latest in the franchise's 21 year history, proved to be exceptionally popular in Japan where it first launched on February 12th, with initial reports suggesting it had actually sold out.
Featuring several new characters in the fighting roster, including fighting chef El Fuerte and martial artist Abel, new 'Focus Attacks' as counter-measures, and wildly over-the-top Ultra Combos, Street Fighter IV looks set to be hugely invigorating for the beat-em-up genre, which has lost its sparkle in recent years.
Referring to upcoming Street Fighter movie, The Legend Chun-Li, and its “Single Content Multiple Usage” stategy, Capcom has also issued the following statement: “At Capcom, not only do we strive to make entertaining and profitable games, but we are always endeavouring to lucratively develop our popular franchises in other media in ways that will please the fans.”
So does that mean development of the Lost Planet movie is still moving forward?
