The Capcom beat-em-up knocks the five-week chart topper from number one...

A semblance of hardcore gaming grasped the UK All Format Charts this week, as Street Fighter IV finally toppled Nintendo's Wii Fit, which had stood at the number one spot for five consecutive weeks.  What's more remarkable is that according to the official UK data the fourth 'true' iteration of the iconic beat-em-up reached the top despite week-on-week sales of Wii Fit rising by 20%.

Street Fighter IV also managed to secure a greater percentage of sales on the PlayStation 3 than the Xbox 360, 53% to 47%.

Competing the hardcore sandwich on the otherside of Wii Fit is THQ's Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II, the latest title from Canadian RTS powerhouse Relic Entertainment.   Its meta-campaign and action-orientated RTS gameplay has been on the radar here at TVG for quite some time, but with this week's success in the charts hopefully we can look forward to plenty of Imperium vs. Ork battles online in the coming weeks.

Nostalgic gamers also went out in their droves last weekend, purchasing a little bit of 'old skool' magic with the SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection charting at number seven.  Featuring titles from the good ol' 16-bit era,  including Sonics 1-3, Golden Axe 1-3, Ecco, and lots, lots more, the value title is sure bring back the memories for vast swathes of late-twenty and thirty-somethings.

Hardcore games don't have their own way in this week's chart however, with several titles such as Ben 10: Alien Force, Mario Kart Wii, and Wii Play, holding strong positions in fourth, eighth, and ninth, respectively.

Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment's FEAR 2: Project Origin leapt into the number two spot in last week's charts, however it hasn't been able to sustain any momentum, and drops to tenth.  The story of Alma's continuing supernatural sulk may have struck a chord during week one, but it seems that gamers had had enough of that and just sent her to her room to think about what she'd done.

According to the Top 40 Sales by Format, the Xbox 360 proved resurgent following last week's drop, becoming the top format for sales with 11 titles.  Both Wii and DS came very close to that mark, securing 10 and 9 games in the Top 40, with PlayStation 3 following in fourth place with seven titles.  It's been a no show again for the PSP, whilst the ageing PlayStation 2 managed to pick up one title in the Top 40 with Ben 10: Alien Force.  Two PC titles, Dawn of War II and SEGA's Football Manager 2009 attained positions in the chart.

You know what a good rating for this game actually is? It's a 4.5. Why? That's because even if I was the number one fan of the original Street Fighter back when it was released 22 years ago in the classic arcade market I would still be as open minded as to say that I never want to see it in my face twenty-two years in the future no matter how much I had once liked it back in the day. What I am denoting is that nothing has changed at all since back then, nothing more than a few pretty looking images and character models in testament to what people would expect from the 21st century. But what ever happened to efficiency and competition? Tradition and bias won't ever get anyone anywhere.

Ok so basically all you are saying about Street Fighter IV is an unnecessary briefing of Capcom's 22-year history concerning the series, why seeing 24 original characters return is better than 22, claiming that the whole "focus attack" concept is a seemingly genius mechanic even though its mediocre at best, and the online functionality in IV has a unique play on person vs person fights. So what happened to summarizing sound, graphics, the rest of the gameplay, longevity, and storyline? Someone is being biased while throwing sickingly pretentious words as they review. Just read the review I submittied for it on Gamespot, I try to actually be objective.

Why did you even bring up Leisure Suit Larry? No one ever said anything about it, you must have some special affection for the game that you can't help but try to deny it every day of your life even if it means blaming other people for liking it when they don't. Unfortunately the pendulum of destiny has already rung, so no matter how much you despair over Leisure Suit Larry ringing in your head every day of your life you will become insane over it without stop and eat unleavened bread for 12 consecutive days and nights before spurting your last breath of air in this world. Good luck with your future, I'm glad I didn't get stuck in your situation.

What a comment, the sheer incredibility of suggesting Leisure Suit Larry over SF4 - you're a genius!
