EA Confirms Cancellation Of Steven Spielberg Project News

They bought us Boom Blox in 2008 and then a sequel the following year, but now it seems the EA/Steven Spielberg collaboration has hit a bump in the road with its second planned project, which had been codenamed LMNO.

"EA maintains its relationship with Steven Spielberg," an EA spokesperson told Joystiq. "EA has ceased development of LMNO. EA continually monitors development resources and adjusts resources as appropriate. No new title announcements."

This followed testimonies from a developer on the project, Jake Kazdal, who said of LMNO in the latest 8-4 Play Podcast, "I don't want to get the EA police on me. I can't say too much. It was very ambitious. We had a small team - very smart people on it. And we spent a lot of time thinking and talking. And doing some stuff. And it just sort of... I don't know exactly what was the thing that made it fall apart."

"I'm sure anybody you ask is gonna tell you something a little bit different, but it didn't end up ever taking off," Kazdal continued. "There was some rival game stuff that may or may not have come out of EA that was basically the same thing minus some of the stuff we were doing. There was just a lot of politics."

LMNO had been off the radar for quite some time anyway, so the cancellation isn't a huge surprise really. Let's just hope that EA and Steven Spielberg can join forces on another project in future as Boom Blox was ace.
