Blizzard Postpones Starcraft: Ghost...Again News

Developer confirms an indefinite delay on development of the long-awaited title as next-gen shift looms...

Starcraft: Ghost (cancelled)

World of Warcraft developer Blizzard has today announced the indefinite postponement in the production of Starcraft: Ghost for Xbox and PlayStation2. The game, which was originally set for a 2003 release, has already been postponed on more than one occasion with a GameCube version already cancelled.

The news comes as Blizzard President Mike Morhaime confirmed, "Like many in the industry, we've been impressed with the potential of the new consoles, and we're looking forward to exploring that potential further...In addition to allowing us to determine the best course for StarCraft: Ghost, this review period will help us lay the groundwork for our future console games."

It's inevitable that some will read Morhaime's "...groundwork for our future console games," comment as proof that MMO World of Warcraft will be released on either Xbox 360, PlayStation3, or both, although that of course remains purely speculative and has been firmly denied by the developer on more than one occasion.

It does however seem that the last nail in the coffin of Starcraft: Ghost on the current-gen consoles has finally been hammered, it's just a question as to how long we'll have to wait for Blizzard to formally announce the next-gen console versions.

Incidentally today's news (in a strange Nostradamus-like way) was hinted at over a year ago when TVG reported that Blizzard's product book packed with WoW listed Starcraft: Ghost as "Coming Soon...to Next-Generation Consoles." Spooky.

We'll have more news shortly...

Good..Starcraft:Ghost on the next-gen is just something i thought they would do.. since it's delayed so many times before, might as well make a next-gen version; a version that will last for many years just like its RTS version on pc.. "With smart deicision comes an expected exciting game.."
