EA indicates that its "major MMO" will be released in the spring of next year...
EA has given the first inklings of Star Wars: The Old Republic's release window since TVG sniffed out the publisher's involvement in the project nearly a year and a half ago. At this stage, spring 2011 appears to have been tentatively attached to the project.
This news comes from a financial call where EA's CEO, John Riccitiello stated, "One key driver is going to be the launch date of our major MMO. As it stands today, the game is making great progress towards a Spring 2011 launch."
Although Riccitiello didn't refer to the "major MMO" by name, it's safe to assume that the game in question is Star Wars: The Old Republic as the publisher doesn't have any other significant MMO projects under its belt (at least, it hasn't announced any others).
Back in 2008, EA estimated that the TOR MMO would arrive during its fiscal 2011 (i.e. between April 2010 and March 2011). Although this latest projection is towards the end of that initial window, BioWare certainly seems to have stayed on schedule with the project over the years.
Riccitiello also revealed release periods for a number of other EA projects in the financial call, with Dead Space 2, Crysis 2, and Criterion's Need For Speed all due to launch before the end of EA's next financial year (between April 1st 2010 and March 31st 2011).
Update: BioWare has confirmed a spring 2011 launch for Star Wars: The Old Republic over on the game's official forums.
