We first brought you details of ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ back in December, however LucasArts today finally took the chance to officially announce the title, billed as an “intense open-ended multiplayer action game set in the Star Wars universe”; the game is currently under development at Pandemic Studios for release on the Xbox, Playstation2 and PC later in the year.<br><br>It’s claimed that the game will place players in the heat of the action as they recreate all of the epic battles from the Star Wars universe, both past and present.<br><br>The game allows both console and PC players to come together and play against each other, over 15 different environments across 10 famous planets such as Hoth, Geonosis, Yavin, Tatooine and Naboo.<br><br>The game features over 20 different soldier types from four different factions: Rebel Alliance, Imperial Army, Clone Army and the Droid Army. Each soldier has specialised abilities and varying skills, whilst it’s also possible to take control of ground mounted cannons and over 15 ground and air vehicles such as the AT-ST, X-Wing and Speeder-Bikes just to mention a few.<br><br>Console gamers will be able to battle against 16 players over the Internet or 32 players via a LAN connection; whilst PC gamers can take advantage of 32 players over the Internet or a mighty 64 over a LAN set-up.<br><br>In addition to the single-player and various multiplayer modes offered in Star Wars Battlefront, a unique "Conquest" mode adds an innovative and strategic gameplay element to the action. After each battle is completed and the planet is conquered, the winning team will be rewarded with a special "bonus" ability that can be deployed in future battles in an attempt to take over the Star Wars galaxy planet-by-planet.<br><br>We’ll have a closer look at ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ soon.
