Casting Director, Chris Marazzo stokes the dying embers of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 rumours...

Despite the fact that very little has been seen or heard of Star Wars: Battlefront III since Free Radical Design parted ways with the project earlier this year, a Casting Director called Chris Marazzo has now laid claim to working on the title "recently".

Marazzo is now working on independent projects "After Casting over 200 Commercials and various projects in NY and LA, including most recently Star Wars Battlefront 3 with Lucas Arts." At least, that's according to the website for his production company, Tunnel Vision Films.

Having picked up on this juicy little titbit, fan-site Battlefront3.net chased up Marazzo on the issue, to which he bafflingly replied: "Thanks for getting in touch. The original title was Battlefront 3 but it evolved into Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption"

So, according to Marazzo, the unannounced Battlefront III project (a multiplayer shooter) evolved into an expansion pack for a real-time strategy game (Star Wars: Empire at War) that was released way back in 2006. This obviously seems a little tenuous, although Marazzo also stated:

"However Battlefront 3 is also in development. It was by far the most fun and coolest casting I ever worked on," he added.

We find it hard to believe that LucasArts has simply ditched the development of Battlefront III considering how far along it was at Free Radical (as well as the commercial success of the series), although Marazzo's claims are more than a little contradictory. Let us know what you think in the comments...

I should think so (if it does get released that is). Battlefront without multiplayer would be a bit like a Sunday lunch with no gravy - the series is focused on multiplayer gameplay after all.

Nobody knows if it's still in development, although we do know that Free Radical was working on it before the developer was acquired by Crytek.

Chances are that the project is in development elsewhere (the best bet is Rebellion), and I can't see LucasArts just chucking out all the assets that Free Radical had compiled up until the end of 2008.

At the start of last year, LucasArts announced that The Force Unleashed was the fastest selling StarWars game in the company's history. I'm fairly certain that the previous record holder was Battlefront 2.

So, yeah, both games have their fans, but it seems a bit far-fetched to claim that Battlefront 3 will have more fans than The Force Unleashed 1 and 2 (And that's assuming that the project hasn't been canned).

Battlefront 2 has had a pretty formidable online community over the years though, with a resilient fan-base who still play the multiplayer and have ensured that the servers stay open.

If this game turns out to be as good as it looks it will probably make millionsof dollars and set a HARD act to follow.

Development has only officially stopped at the former Free Radical Design. The project was quite far along there though, judging by the leaked footage, so in all probability LucasArts has passed the game assets onto another developer (it wouldn't just drop one of its strongest IPs).

The favourite is Rebellion at the moment and we've quizzed the studio's David Brickley on the matter, but he wasn't revealing anything.
