Spore Install Errors Thwart Spore Day News

By Chris Leyton on 05/09/2008

Spore registration server is encountering problems leading to unusual number of calls to technical support...

It appears that the day of Spore has been slightly dampened by an issue preventing the game from registering correctly.

After being contacted by numerous readers suggesting problems when installing the game, TVG contacted EA technical report who informed us that the call centre has received an "unusual" number of calls regarding the issue, which centres on registration keys not being activated correctly.

Apparently the registration server is encountering issues and we're informed that EA are currently unaware of when the server will be back up and running.

TVG contacted EA over the response who provided us with the following response:

"We are aware of issues with registering Spore at the moment. We are working diligently on fixing this issue and apologise for any inconvenience caused. It is possible to play offline."

So at least it won't prevent you from enjoying Spore, even if the universe won't be populated by user created creatures.

This game was a huge let-down, especially in terms of the basic technical aspects of gameplay. And if by "immense," you mean "insanely repetitive and mind-numbing," then I agree with this review. The aspects that make it interesting (terraforming, colonizing, etc) get old VERY fast, and the combat mechanics are idiotic (especially because of the camera angles). Do NOT recommend.
