EA Confirms Spore Expansion News

By Jon Wilcox on 13/10/2008

The Creepy & Cute Parts Pack is confirmed for next month, with a Space stage expansion in the spring...

After listings emerged on various online retail websites last week, Electronic Arts has today confirmed that Will Wright's Spore will be evolving with the release of the Creepy and Cute Parts Pack in November, and the development of a new expansion due for launch in the spring.

The new parts pack will include over 100 new components for Spore fans to create even crazier creatures in both the full retails game and the Spore Creature Creator. Expect the Sporepedia to continue ballooning in size from November 18th, when the pack is launched worldwide.

The new spring expansion, which focuses on the Space stage, will allow players to beam their creatures down onto new planets throughout the galaxy as they complete new challenges and features. The Space expansion is also set to include an Adventure Creator, a toolset for user-created missions, which EA hopes will provide "almost endless gameplay possibilities".

"Spore is an incredibly personal and customizable experience," said Lucy Bradshaw, general manager of Maxis studio. "Many of our fans have asked us for even more tools to build with, while others are looking to extend their gameplay. As soon as we wrapped up Spore, we turned our focus to creating additional content that caters to fans' individual tastes. With the cosmos as our backdrop, we can take Spore in almost infinite directions, constantly changing and evolving the experience."

This game was a huge let-down, especially in terms of the basic technical aspects of gameplay. And if by "immense," you mean "insanely repetitive and mind-numbing," then I agree with this review. The aspects that make it interesting (terraforming, colonizing, etc) get old VERY fast, and the combat mechanics are idiotic (especially because of the camera angles). Do NOT recommend.
