Black Rock believes the racing genre is in a poor state but believes Split/Second can change that...

We were quite partial to a bit of Black Rock Entertainment's trick-based racer Pure, and early signs suggest that their follow-up racer Split/Second is on a similar path to racing greatness.  Racing to cater for the whims of a reality based TV show audience, Split/Second promises plenty of explosive action and intense racing.

However comments made by the studio's head Tony Beckworth in an interview with Develop suggest that the racing genre is in a pretty poor state.

"If you look at the sales figures, the racing genre is in many respects dying out - take Mario Kart out of the equation and the category is in a dire way. I think this genre is ripe for something new and inventive to give it a kick start," said Beckwith.

"We're all fans of street racing here, but as a genre it is relatively stale - the evolution is only coming from how you customise cars, which can only serve to remove you from the action - I think Split/Second will do the opposite," added Split/Second director Nick Baynes.

Okay, what model of Nvidia card do you have? How much RAM have you got in your system? How fast is your processor - does it have a single core or multiple cores? How much space is there on your hard drive?

Check these things against the system specs on the box of the game you bought. If your system matches up against the specifications and the game still doesn't work, then double-check things like error messages...

Are you getting a specific error message when you try to boot up the game? If so, post it on these boards and I'll track down the problem for you.

I would like to try it, but my mom asked if the demo version is free. Is it?

Great high action laughs, if a little too scripted, shame its not a bit more random.

I think that says it all really, although I'm glad that your younger brother has found his niche. Nonetheless, I think Blackrock Studio was aiming at a higher age range.

This was a great buy for my younger brother who is 4, he hasnt had it long but he is making steady progress - great to keep him quite for an hour & its a game which he can win within 4 attempts (on average).

I didn't say that it does give you speed (read your facts straight). All I was saying is that drifting seems to slow you down more than is necessary, so that it's just as fast (if not faster) to slimply plow into the barrier rather than execute a precise drift around a corner.

drifting is supposed to give traction, not speed. get your facts straight.
