Sam Fisher makes his first 3D appearance on a handheld as we check out the DS details...
Ubisoft today revealed the first details on the hugely anticipated debut of Sam Fisher and Splinter Cell for the Nintendo DS, marking the first 3D Splinter Cell title on a handheld format. Taking full advantage of the dual-screens and touch technology, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory offers an immersive single-player campaign in addition to co-operative and versus multiplayer modes.
The game features eight levels spanning across the single-player campaign, including an all-new exclusive stage for the Nintendo DS. Ubisoft promise a host of new moves and gadgets along with those featured within the console versions of Chaos Theory, while Pandora Tomorrowâ??s Swat Turn makes a surprising return. Players utilise the touch screen to manage inventory, pick locks, choose between Samâ??s various goggles and take control of the camera.
The wi-fi co-operative mode takes place across five levels for two-players, with each player choosing between two types of expertise, namely Assault or Hacker; in much the same way as the console versions, players must work together to infiltrate and successfully complete mission objectives.
The Vs mode allows 2-4 players to partake in the traditional battle between Shadownet Spies and Argus Mercenaries. Featuring seven different maps, the Spies must attempt to hack computer devices to steal important information, while the Mercenaries must patrol and guard the stations.
The game promises to be a visual treat for DS owners, featuring advanced physics, rag-doll animations and a variety of particle effects; more importantly the non-linear nature of its console cousin will also make its way to the DS, shaping the way for an immensely absorbing handheld experience.
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is scheduled for release in June 2005; weâ??ll have a closer look soon.
