Empire Interactive's last internal studio is to close; Oxfordshire outfit was in pre-production for a new Wii brand...

Following work on the Double Dragon and Speedball 2 adaptations on Xbox Live Arcade, it seems that time is up for Oxfordshire-based studio Razorworks.

News of the latest studio closure comes from industry publication Develop, which reveals Razorworks' thirty employees were told yesterday it would either close its doors, or be sold. The move comes off the back of parent company Empire Interactive's recent financial reports; Razorworks is Empire's last internal development studio.

According to reports, the outfit was in pre-production for a new Wii title. It's unclear whether development of the unannounced game will be outsourced to an external studio or shelved.

An official announcement by Empire Interactive or Razorworks is yet to be made; the studio follows the likes of SEGA Racing Studio (saved by Codemasters), Activision Foster City, Iron Lore Studios, and Pseudo Interactive, all of which closed in 2008.
