Disney gets serious about the videogames industry and teams up with the man behind Deus Ex...
One of the slightly more surprising announcements to emerge from E3 surrounds the acquisition of Warren Spector's Junction Point Studios by Disney Interactive Studios. Signalling the intent to which Disney is placing upon its latest return to videogames, the acclaimed Deus Ex producer certainly adds a weight of credibility to Disney's aspirations. With a further promise of $130 million investment into product development during 2007, it appears that the mouse-house is taking videogames far more seriously then ever before..
Identifying the DS as key to its overall strategy, the announcement of DGamer is likely to propel Disney as one of the key publishers on the platform. An online community initiative that will feature in all future Disney Interactive Studios' for the Nintendo DS, DGamer allows players to chat, create avatars and trade items anywhere in the world by using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The service will commence with the release of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian during May 2008.
Following the widespread success of the DS title Spectrobes, the inevitable sequel will follow during autumn 2008. Continuing the adventures of Rallen and Jeena, Spectrobes II will introduce a new enemy known as Krux along with more Spectrobes to excavate.
Alongside a host of further announcements that included High School Musical: Sing It!, High School Musical: Makin' the Cut!, Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour, Power Rangers: Super Legends (GameCube ???), Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey, Disney Friends and Enchanted, Disney Interactive Studios also confirmed a return date for Turok on February 5th - in North America at least.
