Rising Star Games announces that the main man behind the DS version of Space Invaders, is the main man behind Space Invaders...

Q2 2005 will see the debut of the classic game Space Invaders on the Nintendo DS, and today the gameâ??s publisher Rising Star Games has revealed that the development of the title has been undertaken by studios headed by Tomohiro Nishikado, the creator of the original game.

The new title will expand on the original game with a New Era mode that takes place over 60 missions spread out over 20 locations around the world. Each location will have its own specific gameplay elements, which will mean that for instance gamers will have to destroy the Invaders according to their colour in London, while other Invaders at other locations will be intermittently invulnerable. After completing the globe-trotting Invader blasting missions the game culminates in a face-to-face encounter with the alien Mothership on the Moon.

Describing the new title, Nishikado-san commented that, "Since 1978, Space Invaders has gone through many iterations â?“ some of which have lost the spirit of the original gameâ?¦With Space Invaders Revolution, I wanted the team to take the game back to its roots â?“ whilst at the same time adding features which would appeal to modern gamers. The result is a game which is as fresh as the original, but which will equally well to those too young to remember the arcade game."

"Space Invaders Revolution is a game close to my heart," concludes Mr. Nishikado. "And I am confident my personal stewardship will help the game live even longer in the hearts of modern games players."

The title will also include a conversion of the original 1978 game, and will be playable with either the control pad or the DS stylus when itâ??s finally released during the second quarter. Weâ??ll have more soon...
