South Park Rally Review

By Mark Simons on 01/01/1970

Oh my god! They killed the gameplay, you bastards

Oh my god! They killed the gameplay, you bastards.

Sorry, lame joke, but it's true, this game has little to nothing that I could recommend about it. Ok so graphically it is competent, but that's not too tricky given the rather spartan nature of the TV show itself. The game is a Mario Kart rip-off-cash-in to put it basically, you do get some missions rather than races though, but these are poorly implemented, and essentially it's you against a load of other drivers, or vice versa, nothing exciting or new.

Handling wise the game is poor, the controls feel unresponsive, and it is hard to do tight turns, even when you utilise the hand-brake to it's fullest. The physics engine is dodgy to say the least and it often results in the flipping of cars, which is most annoying. On top of this the course design is uninspired and generally not impressive adding to the overall poor nature of the game.

The one feature of the game that could be it's saving grace, the actual South Park license, is another poorness contributor. Sound samples are the usual ones taken from the series, which are funny the fist couple of times. Then they become repetitive and somewhat annoying, if some time had been invested in getting some original lines in then it could have made the game mildly amusing, but the developers haven't so instead of amusing it is annoying.

Blatant cash-ins are infuriating enough at the best of times, but even more so when the game is as unoriginal and as poor as South Park Rally. Avoid even more than an alien anal probe.
