SEGA whittles down the candidates to reveal that Sonic will be the only playable character in Project Needlemouse...
As part of a week-long reveal of the characters that will feature in Project Needlemouse, SEGA has unveiled that the untitled Sonic project will be the sole preserve of Sonic himself. Despite the long list of characters that were initially posted on SEGA of America's blog last week, the names have now been whittled down to reveal none other than Sonic himself as the only playable character (what a tease).
"In Project Needlemouse, there will be no new characters - playable or otherwise. The focus will remain solely on one blue hedgehog," SEGA stated on its blog, while also revealing the first piece of concept art from the project (shown above right).
Two things can be taken from this artwork: firstly, the Kanji in the bottom left indicates that Project Needlemouse is being developed in Japan. Secondly, the piece itself looks very much like a Crabmeat character from the original Sonic the Hedgehog (original artwork of this character is shown on the left), suggesting that SEGA is going to be digging up the classic Sonic style for this next game in the series.

What would be the point in keeping that as a mystery? Surely they'd stand to gain exposure by revealing that now, considering it's still slightly topical?
