Features "lots of new zones that look really cool"...

The first details of Sonic 4: Episode 2 have emerged from SEGA.

Sonic 4 brand manager Ken Balough has been speaking about the new game over on the official SEGA forum (as spotted by fan site The Sonic Stadium).

“Episode II is in early development now. We already had some ideas fleshed out on development for Episode I in fact,” he revealed.

“SoA and SoE are both giving feedback and input on Episode II. Episode I did very well for SEGA commercially, and thanks to everyone's support, we definitely have a lot of traction going into Epsiode II. This usually means better budgets, etc.”

“I can tell you that Ep II is not a Sonic CD remake. I can't comment really on anything else - but I can tell you you are going to see new zones that look really cool.”

Balough also took the time to respond to fan criticisms of Episode 1.

“I certainly cannot deny there were some elements that could have been done better - and I could say that about most games I've worked on. That's why Episode II gives us that opportunity to address them (or as much as possible).”

Although no firm release date was announced, Balough did say that “you definitely wont have to wait years and years a la Duke Nukem Forever.”

We absolutely adored Sonic 4: Episode 1, calling it “pure, unfettered joy wrapped up in a videogame” in our 9/10 review.

metal sonic appears in the ending to episode 1, so going by that it seems at least a possibility metal sonic will be in episode 2.  but nothing at all is confirmed or anything.  it's taking alot longer than i expected for episode 2 as well tbh.  hurry up sega!

yeah sonic 4 episode 1 was a slight dissapointment!  i liked the homing attack, not just for enemies but kinda made some parts of the levels play more fluidly too.  however, there was some bad level design in there and the physics still wasn't on par with the decades old games of yesteryear.  come on sega, just give us sonic 2 with new graphics.  we don't want you to try and improve the game engine - it doesn't need improving!  just give us new levels and graphics!!!!!

i guess it really is a case of "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" as i'm a lifelong sonic fan and personally i was hideously disappointed with episode 1. bad controls, stupid homing attack that us retro gamers never needed and still don't and bad level design. i hope episode 2 is a massive improvement
