SEGA confirms that the classic scrolling beat-em-up will be cut from the US and European versions of Sonic compilation...

There is an air of disappointment around the offices at TVG Towers today as SEGA confirmed that Streets of Rage will not be making an appearance on the US and European versions of Sonic Gems Collection. Set to include a number of unlockable items (320 in total) such as artwork, music, and videos, Sonic Gems Collection will feature several titles including Sonic Fighters, Sonic CD, and a raft of GameGear titles featuring the blue hedgehog and his dual-tailed friend.

Reports had suggested that the decision to drop Streets of Rage from the Western line-up was down to the violent nature of the game and would increase the age rating of the collection.

Hopefully yesterday’s news that the company is bringing back a well known franchise to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 will mean the re-emergence of the Streets of Rage series - We’ll have more on Sonic Gems shortly…
