Most people who play Societies are going to be looking for a traditional SimCity experience, and if that's what you're looking for then you're going to hate it. But for those open to something new, you'll like Societies. Its not the greatest game since the beginning of the Sim franchise, but it is the most moddable, most graphically detailed, and most diverse Sim modeling out there. There's something very nice about being able to create an authoritarian police state just to start the new city as a romantic Euro-style of town. My personal favorite is probably the Cyberpunk atmosphere, a mixture of techno pleasure. None of these ideas are available in any other Sim to date, so it makes it a unique experience. The latest update does have some challenge, and basically you have to balance out these different energies or attributes in order to build new building types or make the city work... The problem is when people select Freeplay and it gives you unlimited simoleons without any challenge at all. In that scenario it does limit gameplay to just being a city builder without any challenges. But if you want the most moddable, most graphically beautiful, most diverse SimCity yet, go for it. Societies is down to $20 or less at any outlet so if you want a few weeks of fun that price can't be beat. I'm sure it'll get tiresome after a while, but I've been playing on this game for a week and haven't tired yet.

I like this game, its a completely different game from sim city 4, its more like sims2 in the sense of needs and happyness, rather than a ty love game like sim city 4. The graphics are great but the gameplay could be better considering there's no planes or boats. I give it a 7/10.

I think the game would be tolerable if it didn't crash every 5 mins.

Im kinda pi**ed off with this game cos it requires much higher end graphics and sound card than sims 2, this is dreadful. At least its telling us Sims 3 will be higher

Bought it and played it £35 down the drain. I should have read the reviews first...But it was Sim City, and Ive played and loved the prevoius 4. The worst thing is that it keeps crashing. If it wasnt for that I could live with it just about, after a few drinks.

The crack on evangelical Christians was uncalled for and ruined what might have otherwise been a decent review.

yeah, i have to agree that simcity 4 was def. the best in the series, even though it was basically a 2003 remake of the third one.
