Silent Hill: Downpour Details Emerge News

Konami has announced a name change for Silent Hill 8 (it’s now Silent Hill: Downpour) and released a slew of new screenshots for the title.

The latest entry in the survival horror series follows Murphy Pendleton, a convict stranded in the malevolent world of Silent Hill. Pendleton begins the game lost and alone in the woods on the outskirts of the fabled town, when his prison transport bus crashes.

“A prisoner is a person you would expect to have a lot of baggage for Silent Hill to exploit. We felt this was an interesting premise that fans could speculate on as they awaited the game.” explained Senior Associate Producer, Tomm Hulett.

“I wouldn’t say it was a deliberate attempt to 'play a badguy' necessarily, but we did have discussions around whether or not people would/could relate to such a character.”

Silent Hill Downpour will feature a soundtrack scored by Dexter composer, Daniel Licht. The game is due for release on Xbox 360 and PS3, and will expand on the series' classic gameplay.

"We have this huge city at our disposal, yet in the past, it was comprised primarily of locked doors." said Producer Devin Shatsky.

"We wanted to give players a bit more incentive to search around, and check those doors without facing a constant barrage of discouraging locks. This gives the player a greater sense that they are 'exploring the town."
