Civilizaton Revolution unveiled for a Spring 2008 release on next-gen consoles and handhelds...

He's already spent the last fifteen years conquering the PC world, and now Sid Meier is setting his sights on two new targets with the Spring 2008 release of Civilization Revolution for next-generation consoles and handheld platforms.

Featuring the epic single-player campaigns the franchise has become known for, Civilization Revolution will also include both voice and camera support (presumably for both PlayStation Eye and Xbox Live Vision), as well as extensive multiplayer options across team-based, head-to-head or epic free-for-all matches. Adapting the franchise for console, Revolution will integrate real-time discussions with various world leaders, together with further streamlining to suit the gamepad controlled platforms...and 'action-packed' worlds.

"Civilization Revolution is the game I've always wanted to make!" said Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games. "We are excited to take advantage of the power of next generation consoles and the ingenuity of handhelds, to create a great and unique strategy game for newcomers to the series, as well as the millions of fans around the world who enjoy Civilization on the PC."

"Civilization is one of the world's top selling PC game series with more than 8 million units sold, and continues to be recognized as one of the greatest franchises ever created," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "We are excited to have Sid Meier getting back to his roots as the game's Lead Designer to carry on its legacy with Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution." Civilzation's update comes just weeks after Electronic Arts announced a revamp of another classic PC franchise, SimCity - though let's hope Civ Revolution won't lose the soul of the original titles...

He's heading up Big huge Games, which was responsible for the Rise of Nations games and an Age of Empires III expansion pack. The developer also has a couple of announced games in the pipeline.

Alpha Centauri 2 would be awesome though - could give the 4X strategy genre the kind of boost that it's in desperate need of.

This is BS...Wii should be first, and will be the best of the versions because of the user interface.
