Legendary SEGA developer stands down from his current position leaving his future unclear...
Ever since Psy-Phi failed to materialise in the arcades and talk of Shenmue Online quietly disappeared we were left with the fear that we'd probably seen the last of SEGA's Yu Suzuki.
Today that seems to have been the case with the man behind Outrun, AfterBurner, and Shenmue retiring from his post as R&D creative officer and manager of AM Plus. It's unclear as to whether Suzuki-san has taken a new role at SEGA, although the official statement does suggest that he will remain a member of the Amusement R&D division.
The announcement joins a string of personnel changes and retirements that took place on April 1st, with Super Monkey Ball and Yakuza creator Toshiniro Nagoshi taking on the increased responsibility of general manager of consumer R&D division.
Other names listed in the shakeup include Masanao Maeda, Toshiya Tabata, Hiroyuki Miyazaki, Takayuki Kawagoe and Hiroshi Yagi.
Sadly for Shenmue fans this doesn't appear to be an April Fool's.
