Final list of fifty-eight tracks locked down as the countdown to MTV Games' gig continues...

MTV Games and Electronic Arts have today confirmed the final line up for Harmonix's upcoming 'performance simulator', Rock Band. Set for launch in early 2007 across Europe (but released in North America in time for the Holiday season), the game brings some of the top bands from the past forty years together with the promise of full album downloads in the coming months.

"Our goal with Rock Band was to give players the chance to experience an amazing cross section of music from the last four decades, and our final list of tracks includes everything from emerging bands to iconic artists," stated Paul DeGooyer, MTV's Senior Vice President of Home Entertainment, Music and Games. "The overwhelmingly positive response from artists, music publishers and record labels made the final selection process challenging, but extremely exciting. As a result, 51 out of 58 of the final selections are based on original masters, giving fans an unprecedented way to get closer to the music they love." Eric Brosius, Harmonix audio lead stated, "Now that the disc track list is locked and Rock Band is being prepped for manufacture, we are working with our music partners to set an exciting download schedule, both for launch and beyond. Through DLC, players will have the ability to take a deeper dive into the music of the artists featured on the Rock Band disc, or further explore different genres of rock or additional bands if they choose." Sure it's great that they've put out an update disc for the PS2 but the songs selected are mostly crap compared to the packs you can download with the PS3! WTF?!

Oh, good. I was hoping we could start seeing additional game discs for this franchise on the PS2 (since we can't do the downloads thing like the 360 or PS3). Love that they've gotten the rights to use Teenage Lobotomy, too!

I can see alot of ebay shops setting up just importing Rockband to the EU, they will make loads, people get it cheaper and quicker. At the full price EA wants for it the game is a dead duck in the EU.

Activision is being really stupid about all of this. I am betting they are thinking that this kind of game is just a fad or something and is hoping to control the market as much as they can. All I can say about that is look at the whole IBM vs Mac issue. Mac went propriatary on all hardware and software while IBM remained open. Until recently 95% of PC sales were IBM compatable, and the software companies that were making games for the IBMs were raking in the cash. Anytime you make such a limiting thing to the consumer they will move on to a more versatile option. The next game that comes out that will work with any and all previously made guitars, mics (American Idol, Sing Star), drums and whatever else, is going to be the winner. Then Activision will be firing whoever made the decision to keep the patch from going thru.

US rockband plays on PS3 fine... it's region - free gaming on the PS3. I know this cos I bought Rockband from the States... total cost including shipping and VAT (from customs) and extra postage was just under £130.... cheaper than all this rip off prices we have to pay in the UK.. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THAT????? NO body ever answers that question.
