Harmonix and EA confirm that Europe won't experience the same drought of peripheral SKUs that the US has...
Harmonix and EA have confirmed to TVG that the there won't be the same Rock Band peripheral drought in Europe as there has been in the US, where the game and instrument bundle were released last November.
According to Rock Band's publisher and developer, the £130 instrument bundle, £60 individual wireless guitar, and £70 drum kit will all be available for the Xbox 360 on the game's UK release date of May 23rd.
In response to a question about the drought of individual peripheral SKUs for Rock Band in the US, Rock Band's Design Director, Rob Kay, commented in a TVG Q&A:
"There was a little bit of that, which was part of the teething problems we had in getting the hardware out there in the US, and that's also part of the reason why we wanted to get all of our 'ducks in a row' and get everything lined up so that when we release in the UK, there are none of those problems."
"We've set it up differently because we want to give people choice," Kay continued. "It's actually the way we wanted to do it in the states but now we can take our time and get it right here first. We make the guitar available separately (which is wireless) and the drums available separately."
Additionally, an EA Spokesperson has confirmed to TVG that the individual drum kit and wireless guitar peripherals will both be released simultaneously, alongside the instrument bundle and boxed copy of the game on May 23rd.
MTV Games and EA are still having problems getting the individual peripheral SKUs released in the US, where the standalone wireless guitar for Xbox 360 and PS3 only went on sale two days ago. According to Amazon's US site, the Rock Band guitar for Nintendo's Wii won't go on sale until June 22nd, while the Xbox 360 and PS3 drum kits were released last February.
Play.com in the UK currently only has the instrument bundle, individual drum kit, and boxed copy of the game listed for a May 23rd release (the wireless guitar remains unlisted). Amazon.co.uk, on the other hand, has been updated over the last 24 hours to list the instrument bundle for a June 30th release (a Monday), a May 23rd date for the boxed copy, and May 25th release dates for the individual drum kit and guitar (which is, even more strangely, a Sunday).

Sure it's great that they've put out an update disc for the PS2 but the songs selected are mostly crap compared to the packs you can download with the PS3! WTF?!

the drums, guitar, vocals, and expecialy bass are all easy however rock band has kickass songs with kickass graphics making it a little thing called "fun"

I can see alot of ebay shops setting up just importing Rockband to the EU, they will make loads, people get it cheaper and quicker. At the full price EA wants for it the game is a dead duck in the EU.

Activision is being really stupid about all of this. I am betting they are thinking that this kind of game is just a fad or something and is hoping to control the market as much as they can. All I can say about that is look at the whole IBM vs Mac issue. Mac went propriatary on all hardware and software while IBM remained open. Until recently 95% of PC sales were IBM compatable, and the software companies that were making games for the IBMs were raking in the cash. Anytime you make such a limiting thing to the consumer they will move on to a more versatile option. The next game that comes out that will work with any and all previously made guitars, mics (American Idol, Sing Star), drums and whatever else, is going to be the winner. Then Activision will be firing whoever made the decision to keep the patch from going thru.

US rockband plays on PS3 fine... it's region - free gaming on the PS3. I know this cos I bought Rockband from the States... total cost including shipping and VAT (from customs) and extra postage was just under £130.... cheaper than all this rip off prices we have to pay in the UK.. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THAT????? NO body ever answers that question.

Excellent news about this for the wii. trouble is how much is this one gonna set us all back? and will it be packaged with all the periferals?? Hope that the current guitair hero guitar controller is compatable otherwise this may push the price up too much. anyone got any ideas???

I was extreamly dissapointed, I bought both and its really is bad. They win I paid down my 60 bucks for the rockband extra guitar that will be out in april. Bad activision..bad!
