The Sony handheld gets its own version of the MTV Games title; no peripherals but it will turn up the Amplitude...

Following on from confirmation that LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm are to make appearances on the PSP in 2009, is news that MTV Games' Rock Band will also jump onto the Sony handheld in the form of 'Rock Band Unplugged'.

Although things are a little sketchy at the moment, several details about the title have been released from a number of online sources including Primotech.  Sounding suspiciously like cult PlayStation 2 rhythm title Amplitude (which was developed by MTV Games subsidiary Harmonix), Rock Band Unplugged's tracks will be broken up into musical phrases played via the PSP's face buttons.  Players can jump from instrument to instrument with the shoulder buttons, though they run the risk of leaping too early and losing their multiplier bonus in the process.

In a similar fashion to SingStar and (more famously) iTunes, Rock Band Unplugged will get its very own online store filled with additional premium content, accessible directly from the PSP.

The game is currently in development at portable gaming specialists, Foundation9's Backbone Entertainment.
