EA Hasn't Signed Rock Band 3 Yet [UPDATE] News

Uncertainty continues to surround the waning popularity of the rhythm/action genre, but don't ask EA about the future of Rock Band.  Responding to a question surrounding Rock Band 3 during a post financial conference call, EA's COO John Schappert suggested that nothing has been set in stone regarding the future of the series.

"As you can see from our modeling we have not included a lot of revenue for distribution next year," Schappert noted.  "But we continued to have talks with them [Harmonix] and hope that maybe there’s an opportunity to continue the relationship beyond that."

John Riccitiello, EA CEO, quickly interrupted to provide further clarification, which ultimately managed to muddy the situation even further.

"That was our relationship defined through FY10 for new frontline releases," Richitello added.  "We've got a strong relationship and we haven't incorporated it because we don't presently have an agreement for FY11 new titles."

So no agreement between EA, MTV Games and Harmonix just of yet for Rock Band 3; perhaps they're all waiting to see how the Rock Band Network takes off.
