GameCube comes out on top after the recent round of price-cuts...

The worldwide price cuts have certainly done the job for Nintendo, with recent figures showing the GameCube to be the leading format in America.<br><br>In a statement released by Nintendo, the GameCube is believed to currently be outselling the Playstation2 by 20% whilst the lead over the Xbox is an amazing 145%. Hopefully this will be a sustained increase for the GameCube in the lead-up to Christmas instead of the brief spurts that accompanied the releases of ‘Super Mario Sunshine’, ‘The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker’ and the previous price cut.<br><br>The price cuts do put Nintendo is a awkward position however, with next-generation consoles not believed to be arriving until 2006 it leaves Nintendo with precious little space to move in the next couple of years; that is unless they want to give the system away for free <i>or</i> they’ve got a few tricks up their sleeves and manage to get to the market first with GameCube2.<br><br>No word has yet been made on what effect the price-cut has had in Europe; hopefully an announcement will be forthcoming.<br>
