Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Revealed News

Former SOCOM developer Slant Six Games is a making a new Resident Evil title for Xbox 360 and PS3. Dubbed Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, the new game is a team-based shooter with a focus on carnage and big guns.

According to a report in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine (via StickSkills), Operation Raccon City will be set around the time of the original outbreak between Resident Evil 2 and 3; you play as members of an official Umbrella Security Services (USS) squad tasked with containing the outbreak and silencing any unfortunate survivors you encounter. Along the way you’ll come across classic areas and characters from the series, and you’ll even be able to alter Resident Evil history by killing some of them.

In opposition to the Umbrella squad, a US Special Ops task forces has been deployed to counter the effects of the Zombie outbreak, and stop the Security Team from murdering innocent survivors. It will be possible to play on either side, and your missions will vary depending on which character you select within each team; the USS might have a mission to kill (Resident Evil 2 protagonist) Leon Kennedy, whereas the Spec Ops team would be sent to protect him.

Zombies can be used as ‘meatshields’ and the game features a full unlock and XP system which grants access to new weapons and special abilities such as cloaking. There will be a clear focus on action in the new title, with ammo readily available - in contrast to earlier classic entries in the series.

"This is not a one-versus-one game where you've got one clip full of ammo and zombies on you.  If you've ever thought of those times in an RE game when you thought, 'I'd wish I had a big gun', that's what this game is.  It's not fair to give people big guns, then take all the ammo away."
