The Katana-wielding exclusive Wii title will be offering four-player split screen though the door remains open for online...

No doubt one of the key launch titles for Wii later in 2006, the multiplayer aspects for Ubisoft Paris' Red Steel have nonetheless remained uncover. In an interview with Nintendo Europe's official website however, Senior Project Coordinator on Red Steel, Stephanie Langlois, has confirmed that the game will not feature online play over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Revealing that the title will include four-player split-screen action, Langois commented that, "Online will maybe one day be announced by Nintendo but it won't be for the launch [of Red Steel]." Gametypes for the multiplayer mode are still being kept under wraps, though it was confirmed that, "...internally we [Ubisoft Paris] are making tons of tests."

Elsewhere in the interview, Langois announced that the game will be utilising the Wii-mote's built-in speaker for the sound of swords clashing together.

News that Red Steel won't be utilising Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is a bit disappointing, but at least Langois' comments suggest that it might be added thanks to a post-release patch.

We'll have more on Red Steel in the future...
