Quantic Dream's David Cage reveals that his studio is working on not one, but two different projects...
David Cage, the CEO and co-founder of Heavy Rain developer, Quantic Dream has revealed that his studio is currently working on "two very different projects".
This news comes from Examiner, where Cage revealed in an interview, "We currently work on two very different projects. After the success of Heavy Rain, we continue to explore how we can go further with interactive drama, working on emotion and interactive storytelling for a mature audience, but with a very different story and a different approach. I think that people who enjoyed Heavy Rain will be surprised by what we prepare. Quantic Dream also explores how to use what we learned about emotion on Heavy Rain in very different types of experiences."
While these two projects that Cage is referring to could simply be adding Move controls to Heavy Rain (which has been confirmed), and a new game at the studio (which has also been mentioned previously by Cage), the wording of his comments does seem to suggest that these "very different projects" are new and separate from Heavy Rain.
"Often, after a long and challenging project like Heavy Rain, it is difficult for the team to get excited again about a new idea," Cage continued. "This is absolutely not the case at the moment at Quantic and all the team seems enthusiastic about the possibility of other projects. The team and the company continue to grow in experience, confidence and talent."
It's also worth noting that these projects may well be at an early stage - they may even be in pre-production. Just because Quantic Dream is developing them, that doesn't necessarily confirm that any publishers have picked them up yet. Put another way, this is by no means a confirmation that two games will emerge from Quantic Dream in the next few years (although we certainly hope that they do).
"After Heavy Rain, we have some credibility in experimenting with new IPs and new concepts," Cage added. "We are not going to play it safe from now, we are going to use this credibility to continue to take risks, give ourselves exciting challenges and try to invent new ways of playing. I believe that this is what Quantic Dream's fans expect us to do. It is also what keeps me passionate about what we are doing."
