QuakeCon Hosts Quake 4 Multiplayer + Xbox Doom3: Resurrection of Evil News

By Chris Leyton on 09/08/2005 Id Software and Activision confirm development on the Xbox expansion pack, set to debut alongside Quake 4 multiplayer at QuakeCon...

As previously suspected, Activision and id Software will take the wraps from Quake 4 multiplayer at the 10th Annual QuakeCon event. In addition confirmation that the Doom3 expansion pack, Resurrection of Evil, will also make its debut for the Xbox has arrived.

Marking id’s return to the throne of multiplayer gaming, Quake 4 multiplayer is based on speed, style and the overall style popularised with the genre-defining release of Quake III: Team Arena. In development with Raven Software Quake 4 promises the return of fan favourites such as DeathMatch, Team DeathMatch, Arena, CTF and Tournament modes from the perspective of both the Marines and the Strogg.

Released earlier in the year on the PC, Resurrection of Evil improved the flaws and criticisms levelled at Doom3 and more importantly marks the return of the franchise central Dual-Shotgun weapon. Kept under wraps, the Xbox stand-alone version is currently in development at Nerve Software and id Software, with a fresh storyline, new levels, beasts and powerful weapons such as the physics defying Grabber Gun and the time-manipulating Artifact.

QuakeCon 2005 is being held at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center from August 11th-14th; we’ll have further information on both titles, but remember to check the game index for previous coverage.
