Quake 3 Revolution
So you’ve played Quake, Quake II, Quake III: Arena, and all on the PC, why should you part with your precious money to buy what is surely only a spin off of Arena but for the PS2?

Well what can I say? Being an ‘Unreal Tournament’ fan myself, I was a bit dubious about this new Quake III, but once I had played it, that feeling disappeared and it was replaced with excitement and delight.

A brief history of the game, the ‘Vadrigar’ constructed the Arena Eternal where people could be entertained by the greatest warriors killing each other, (or fragging each other, as it is called.) Any of the warriors who were killed were instantly brought back to life and thrust back into battle.

Now five surviving warriors from the Arena Eternal take on new challenges from the Vadrigar, but will these remaining gladiators continue to fight for entertainment or will they fight for their freedom? What do you think?

Quake III Revolution is absolutely amazing; it looks just like the PC version ‘Arena’. This is continued by the appearance of twenty odd levels and all the weapons from the PC game, however there are five new levels and you do actually get to face the Vadrigar.

The graphics are brilliant, the scale and textures especially, the scale being very realistic and consistent, whilst the textures have huge amounts of detail, check out the shapes and coloring of the walls noticing cracks and burn marks.

Modes in the game are great, the single player campaign features all six different modes including ‘Deathmatch’, ‘Capture the Flag’ and a brand new mode called ‘Possession’ in which you have to possess a flag for a certain amount of time.

The 2-4 player mode, which really has to be seen to be believed, has 42 characters to choose from and offers you the opportunity to train them up via the single player mode.

You can control anyone of five characters including Sarge and Doom. (Doom, you may remember actually from the game ’Doom’). Each character has their own special skills and attributes as well as their own favorite weapon, which they will handle better than any other weapon.

As you progress through the single player mode your character stats may increase, therefore his/her rank will change. As your rank changes so will your appearance, this does not become apparent until after each battle when you see your character, as for the entire game you are playing in a first player perspective, but still it’s a nice touch.

So are there any bad points that I could make about the game, well only one. The manufactures, for whatever reasons, have chosen not to release this game on-line. Personally I feel this is a wasted opportunity.

Comments
Overall this game is absolutely brilliant, the graphics are stunning the sound effects are outstanding, this game is top notch. Surely they will make another Quake, with online capabilities, won’t they?
