Sierra pushes Prototype into 2009 from its previous autumn 2008 release window...

Sierra Entertainment has delayed Prototype from its autumn 2008 release window into 2009. It appears more time was required for Sierra and Radical Entertainment to deliver the original vision for the game, although there is still hope for the inclusion of multiplayer.

"Sierra Entertainment and Radical Entertainment have made the decision to shift Prototype to launch in 2009," a Sierra Spokesperson told IGN. "Since its announcement, Prototype has been regarded by many as groundbreaking and taking the open-world genre in new directions, and in the simplest explanation possible, we need more time to deliver the game the team initially set out to create."

Although previous reports have suggested that Prototype's multiplayer features had been cut from the game, Sierra's Spokesperson was quick to point out that although the multiplayer was on hold, this delay allows further time to consider its inclusion.

"As we've stated previously, Prototype's multiplayer development was never 'off the table' but rather under evaluation and on hold. Now, with the updated 2009 timing, Prototype multiplayer is still on the table for evaluation, and further details will be revealed down the line."

A Spokesperson for Vivendi (Sierra's parent company) in the UK has confirmed these reports to TVG.
