Due at the end of March, the revised control system for Pro Evo's Wii debut is unveiled...

Konami has today shed further light on the control system being worked into the upcoming Wii edition of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, due for launch on March 28th.

Making strong use of the Wii-remote's accelerometers, players will pass and dribble the ball depending on where they point the gampad on the screen, together with some deft nunchuk shaking to tackle, and a sharp flick to take a (hopefully successful) shot on goal. Using on-screen guiding arrows to judge the speed of the dribble or pass, together with the rest of the controls, sounds innovative, however it's unclear if the system allows for the same depth that the series has become renowned for.

Those Miis are also set to make an appearance in the game, with players capable of using up to 16 characters into a team.

PES 2008 on Wii also utilise online play over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, including a global 'Challenge Road' mode where players can earn Experience Points depending on the outcome of matches and the completion of several min-games. Let's hope that this version will avoid the contentious lag issues beleaguering both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions.
