By TVG Staff on 10/07/2003A UK web-designer comes up with a cunning way to turn your PS2 into a web-browser, however we're not exactly sure why you'd want to...
This round of Internet equipped consoles have been less then keen to offer web-browsing capabilities, presumably learning from the Dreamcast experience and realising that TV’s low-resolution simply isn’t viable for displaying web-pages accurately.

However a UK Playstation2 enthusiast has found a way to bypass the Playstation2 network settings and allow people to browse the web from their consoles. Martyn Brook has created a web page that acts as a browser, allowing you to view other web pages from within it.

However you’ll need to change the IP address in the Playstation2 network settings to point to the new web site, instead of the Playstation2 home page, which is currently set as the default.

To do this:

Start the Network Access Disc in a normal manner

Click ‘Get Connected’

Go to ‘Advanced Options’

Choose ‘Configure External Network Device’

Select the Settings file

Type in the new IP address – 217.33.205.103

Having made these changes, the ‘Book Fresh’ web site should pop up, allowing you to view other pages from within it.

Unfortunately it appears that the Network software is different in America, as this method appears not to work with American machines at present.
