John Koller suggests PS3 titles will itnroduce new ways to play beyond motion control, disses rivals and suggests PS3 gamers don't want backwards compatibility...
Sony's Director of Marketing John Koller has stated that 2010 will see PS3 titles offer a new way to game, beyond the introduction of the motion controller.
"Going into the back half of the year, we have a number of key launches," Koller told GamePro. "We haven't really announced all of them yet, but the titles that will be launching at the time are going to be very exciting. Some of the big franchises, as well as new IPs have new ways to game, not motion control gaming, but in other ways. It's going to be a really strong lineup."
In typical executive fashion Koller also spoke about the motion controller, promising that it will do things that the Wii and Project Natal can't but refused to specify why.
"I think the areas that are going to be really critical to our success will be family games, as well as shooters and sports games," Koller claimed when speaking about motion control. "In terms of the best types of games, I'd say that right now we're looking a real wide variety of genres that can utilize the technology."
"Those are going to be the areas that will really define success, because they're areas that quite honestly, I think Project Natal and the Wii are going to have trouble matching, from a differentiation standpoint."
"We look at motion control as being that much more than what exists on the market. The Holy Grail of gaming is placing you as a consumer into the game physically. When we provide further details, people will see exactly where we're going, not only from a technological standpoint on the hardware, but also where the gameplay is transitioning. It's going to be a really exciting launch."
Finally Koller spoke about PS2 backwards compatibility, suggesting that it's only the media and not consumers which want to see it materialise.
"With the backwards compatibility issue, we're at a point now in the cycle of the PlayStation 3 that there's so many PS3 games available, so many strong PS3 games, that it's really become far less of an issue than I think a lot people -- particularly the media -- are asking about."
"In all of our studies, we've noticed that it's fallen off the map in terms of demand. There's not many requests for it much at all anymore. There's really a high level of satisfaction on the PlayStation 3 for PS3 games themselves."
TVG suspects that it's more to do with the insurmountable technical hurdles caused by the intrinsic hardware differences between the PS2 and PS3; a problem that this patent was aiming to solve, but doesn't appear to be going anywhere.

@ Robert Young: Try Sony and Microsoft's actual financial reports. They are the only reliable source for worldwide console sales/shipments.

My previous blog of 360 lead over PS3 is not "guess estimate". Those numbers were taken from a reputable website that unfortunately, this website prohibited me from quoting. This website is so reputable that companies use their numbers for their own studies; videochartz......

Well it is August 2011 now, PS3 fanboys. Where is the lead of PS3 "overtaking" the 360 by January 2011? Yeah, the PS3 sales are inching closer to the 360 but, as of Aug 2011, it is still that - "inching closer". As of August 2011, the worldwide lead of 360 over PS3 is 3.4 million. The U.S. lead of 360 over PS3 is 12.282 million. Also, here in the U.S., as of Dec 2008, the 360 lead was 7.98 mil. As of Dec 2009, the 360 lead was 8.64 mil. As of Dec 2010, the 360 lead was 11.34 mil. And that brings us to Aug. 2011. So, don't predict stuff that will fall flat on your faces, LOL ;-)..........

well the welcome back pack finally arrived yesterday and what a mess it was, i guess sony thought it was a good idea to release it in all regions rather than america first moving roung the globe in a way that would not hinder people from getting the free content or causing a lot of confusion when people saw the "get now" link vanish and had to look for guides as to get their free content.
one thing i didnt know about the welcome back pack was the inclusion of 3 FREE full HD movie rentals, if you didnt know about it look on the XMB in the orange box (under account management) and you should find it though i think it expires on the 5th (sunday, tomorrow) so get them while you can.
