Sony's Expected Loss Hastens PS3 Price Cut News

Financial analyst believes Sony will chop $100 from the PS3 price in April...

Amidst suggestions that Sony Corp is likely to predict an annual loss of $1.1 billion (£747 million) for the year to March 31st - its first in 14 years - Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter has suggested that the PS3 price cut could finally be on the cards.

Picking up on the information GameDaily reports that Sony will reduce the price of a PS3 to $299 (£203) from $399 (£271) in April. Pachter further suggests that Microsoft will follow suit and reduce the cost of the Xbox 360 Pro to $249 (£169) at E3 in June, whilst claiming that the Wii is likely to remain at $249 throughout the year.

Such a move would likely rest on the cost cutting measures Sony and its partners have made to PS3 manufacturing. It's unlikely Sony's troubled position would be assisted by a price cut that cuts the PS3's bottom line, which has in the past resulted in Sony's "added value" campaign, but at the same time will not be wanting to loose ground on the Xbox 360 in the sales race.

	By: Anonymous Added:Sun 27th Sep 2009 11:09, Post No: 755 but people have come to accept the rrod its been happening for years now unlike the yellow light of death thats not because of unreliable parts but due to a firmware update, is this an indication that sony had tried to overclock the ps3 and may have had a stable overclock but releasing a firmware update with the overclock included may have caused the trapped gas in the circuit boards.

A .5% deficiant rate is quite low and seems an acceptable rate for any product. It seems that if Sony can compensate these very few failures with replacement systems ect. then this would be a very small problem.
