Publishing Execs Praise PS3 Price Cut News

It's not often that publishing executives get involved in the console wars between rival manufacturers, but Ubisoft and EA's CEOs have done just that by showering praise all over Sony's decision to cut the PS3's price tag.

EA's CEO, John Riccitiello has commented that he believes the price cut is a "great move" that's been made at the right time, before the Christmas rush has bombarded consumers with other products. According to Riccitiello, the PS3 Slim "really stands out" because of this.

Frank Gibeau, EA Games' President, was even more enthused. "I think it's awesome. It's an old line, but it still rings true for us: 'We make the ammunition for the hardware wars'. So the lowest priced hardware possible is a good thing for us. We want to see as big and broad a base as possible, and the Sony hardware is a good piece of equipment," he said.

"Getting into that price point is just going to expand the market for us, especially in Europe," Gibeau continued. "We have a lot of PS3 games, we're a good supporter of Sony, we believe in the platform. We've got a lot of PSP games coming, and frankly we also support the PlayStation Network with direct-to-consumer releases."

Meanwhile, Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot has also been singing from Sony's hymn book. "It's exceptional news, actually. I think the machine is a great machine, with the Blu-ray," he said of the PS3 Slim announcement. "I'm happy that they were able to move to that [price point], particularly in the UK."
