Sony's video on-demand service for the PS3 launches in Europe with 2000 films and ambitions to add 50 movies per week...
Sony's Video Delivery Service for the PS3 and PSP, which will bring on-demand movies to the consoles via PSN for the first time in Europe, has now gone live. The service, which has launched with 2000 films across the whole continent, also boasts an impressive array of 800 movies for the UK market alone.
Although the platform has launched in France, Germany, Spain, and the UK initially, Sony has plans to expand the service across the region next year, while also increasing the payload of videos that are available at a rate of 50 per week.
Andrew House, SCEE's President and CEO told gi.biz, "We're starting out with a really strong offering - there's plenty there to choose from, a tremendous number of current hits - and then I think we'll grow it somewhere in the region I hope of about an additional 50 movies per week."
Unlike Xbox Live's Video Marketplace - from which users can only rent movies - Sony's service gives users the choice of either renting or buying movies, with prices starting at £2.49 to rent and £6.99 to buy. High definition movies are also available through the service, although initially these will only be available to rent.
Here's your rundown of the most high-profile and recently released titles that will be available at launch:
- Bruno
- Star Trek
- Terminator Salvation
- Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
- X-Men Origins: Wolverine
- Valkyrie
- Gran Torino
- Angels and Demons
Existing PSN members who buy Angels and Demons will receive a complimentary copy of The Da Vinci Code, while anybody who registers a new PSN account between now and the end of November will receive a voucher entitling them to a free copy of Transformers.
And now the small print: videos that are rented from PSN's new on-demand platform will be available to users for 14 days after purchase, and 48 hours after playback has commenced. Similarly to Xbox Live's Video Marketplace, the Video Delivery Service allows users to stream and watch a video simultaneously over PSN.

@ Robert Young: Try Sony and Microsoft's actual financial reports. They are the only reliable source for worldwide console sales/shipments.

My previous blog of 360 lead over PS3 is not "guess estimate". Those numbers were taken from a reputable website that unfortunately, this website prohibited me from quoting. This website is so reputable that companies use their numbers for their own studies; videochartz......

Well it is August 2011 now, PS3 fanboys. Where is the lead of PS3 "overtaking" the 360 by January 2011? Yeah, the PS3 sales are inching closer to the 360 but, as of Aug 2011, it is still that - "inching closer". As of August 2011, the worldwide lead of 360 over PS3 is 3.4 million. The U.S. lead of 360 over PS3 is 12.282 million. Also, here in the U.S., as of Dec 2008, the 360 lead was 7.98 mil. As of Dec 2009, the 360 lead was 8.64 mil. As of Dec 2010, the 360 lead was 11.34 mil. And that brings us to Aug. 2011. So, don't predict stuff that will fall flat on your faces, LOL ;-)..........

well the welcome back pack finally arrived yesterday and what a mess it was, i guess sony thought it was a good idea to release it in all regions rather than america first moving roung the globe in a way that would not hinder people from getting the free content or causing a lot of confusion when people saw the "get now" link vanish and had to look for guides as to get their free content.
one thing i didnt know about the welcome back pack was the inclusion of 3 FREE full HD movie rentals, if you didnt know about it look on the XMB in the orange box (under account management) and you should find it though i think it expires on the 5th (sunday, tomorrow) so get them while you can.
