The PS3 has sold 2 million units in the UK, while the PSP passes the 3 million milestone...
Sony UK has announced two milestones for its PS3 and PSP consoles, with the home console having sold 2 million units so far and the handheld pulling in 3 million unit sales in the region.
Ray Maguire, the Managing Director of Sony in the UK, spoke to MCV about the figures and was optimistic about the longevity of the PS3 going forward:
"Obviously PS3 is a premium product with a premium price tag," he said. "Interestingly, because it has sold two million at a higher price, it suggests more longevity of the PS3 because we have chipped away at the top end of the triangle."
Maguire was also positive about the prospects of Sony's Killzone franchise after Killzone 2 took the top spot on the UK charts this week:
"Everyone is reporting really good sales of Killzone 2," he explained. "We've seen not just a really good day one - but also for the game to be a good solid seller all the way through. We've got good bundles out there with hardware and software and that has picked up nicely according to our early numbers.
"It certainly has helped drive hardware. I think there were a lot of people out there who wanted something which really showed the power of PlayStation 3 - and now they can see it, it's a reason for them to get on board."
It's approximately a year since Sony announced selling 1 million PS3's in the UK, which was roughly a year since the PS3 was released, so the sales for Sony's flagship console are nothing if not consistent in the UK.

but people have come to accept the rrod its been happening for years now unlike the yellow light of death thats not because of unreliable parts but due to a firmware update, is this an indication that sony had tried to overclock the ps3 and may have had a stable overclock but releasing a firmware update with the overclock included may have caused the trapped gas in the circuit boards.

Actually we can still complain about the RROD because the xbox has a 54 percent failure rate compared to the PS3's 14.7
OFF Topic: MAG will be pwnage

good point, but who's to say the complaints wont keep coming in? could easily be a majour fault in the system.
but i aint gettin called a fanboy again so ill stick with ur comment =) lets just hope sony can address the problem like microsoft did with the enw motherboards they were using

It's really a low failure rate when compared to Xbox's 45% failure rate in the earlier generations of systems.
A .5% deficiant rate is quite low and seems an acceptable rate for any product. It seems that if Sony can compensate these very few failures with replacement systems ect. then this would be a very small problem.
