Sony records a loss of 33 billion yen (£217 million) for the second quarter of fiscal 2010...
Sony has released its financial report for the second quarter of its fiscal year (ending September 30th 2009), which reveals a loss of 32.6 billion yen (£217 million) for the company compared to the 11 billion yen (£373 million) it recorded in operating income for the same period last year.
Total sales and revenues were down by 411 billion yen (£2.7 billion) over last year's figures for the second quarter, while revenues for Sony's Networked Products and Services division (which accounts for PlayStation sales) were down by 113 billion yen (£748 million) over the same period last year.
The NPS division then recorded a loss of 59 billion yen (£391 million) for this year's Q2 compared to a loss of 41 billion yen (£380 million) last year. Despite this, worldwide PS3 sales were up by 0.8 million units (3.2 million total unit sales for the quarter), while PSP sales dropped slightly by 0.2 million units over last year's Q2 figures.
Sony explained that the 24.2% revenue drop in its Networked Products and Services division was, "primarily due to the impact of foreign exchange rates, as well as a decrease in unit sales of PS2 hardware and software."

but people have come to accept the rrod its been happening for years now unlike the yellow light of death thats not because of unreliable parts but due to a firmware update, is this an indication that sony had tried to overclock the ps3 and may have had a stable overclock but releasing a firmware update with the overclock included may have caused the trapped gas in the circuit boards.

Actually we can still complain about the RROD because the xbox has a 54 percent failure rate compared to the PS3's 14.7

It's really a low failure rate when compared to Xbox's 45% failure rate in the earlier generations of systems.
A .5% deficiant rate is quite low and seems an acceptable rate for any product. It seems that if Sony can compensate these very few failures with replacement systems ect. then this would be a very small problem.
