The latest PS3 Firmware update (version 2.10) is now live, providing a range of new features...
Sony has unleashed the new Firmware update for PlayStation 3, version 2.10. The update is now live with improvements such as support for DivX and VC-1 video codecs, as well as the addition of Picture in Picture (PiP) features via the new Blu-ray Profile 1.1 (otherwise known as Bonus View).
This PiP feature with 'Bonus View' allows users to view secondary video codecs simultaneously during playback. For the less technologically literate amongst us, this means that you can watch recordings video commentaries etc. in small video windows, while watching the main feature in full screen.
The DivX and VC-1 support will simply increase the already large number of video playback formats that the PS3 can support. Another interesting feature with Firmware version 2.10 is voice changing for audio chat. Our first task will be altering the tone and pitch of our voices to sound like Darth Vader.

but people have come to accept the rrod its been happening for years now unlike the yellow light of death thats not because of unreliable parts but due to a firmware update, is this an indication that sony had tried to overclock the ps3 and may have had a stable overclock but releasing a firmware update with the overclock included may have caused the trapped gas in the circuit boards.

Actually we can still complain about the RROD because the xbox has a 54 percent failure rate compared to the PS3's 14.7

It's really a low failure rate when compared to Xbox's 45% failure rate in the earlier generations of systems.
A .5% deficiant rate is quite low and seems an acceptable rate for any product. It seems that if Sony can compensate these very few failures with replacement systems ect. then this would be a very small problem.
