A final round of PS3 Slim rumours emerge as Sony's GamesCom keynote looms ever closer...
It's T-minus four and a half hours until Sony's Kaz Hirai is set to take the stage at GamesCom but the PS3 Slim rumours are still flooding in, this time from US retailer Kmart, which has posted the following ad on its website:
So, that'll be the PS3 Slim then. Retailer movement here in the UK has seen ASDA drop the price of an 80GB PS3 to £250 (£50 cheaper than the system's UK RRP). The console is bundled with a Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines Blu-ray disc, Terminator: Salvation game, and either Ghostbusters: The Game or infamous.
An ASDA spokesperson told gi.biz that the promotion will continue until stocks are exhausted as the retailer believes that Sony will discontinue the 80GB PS3 model.

UPDATE: A Kmart listing for a PS3 Slim console has now emmerged, including an RRP of $299 (£182) for the almost certainly soon to be announced system. Now, we hate to say 'I told you so' here at TVG but, we told you so.

but people have come to accept the rrod its been happening for years now unlike the yellow light of death thats not because of unreliable parts but due to a firmware update, is this an indication that sony had tried to overclock the ps3 and may have had a stable overclock but releasing a firmware update with the overclock included may have caused the trapped gas in the circuit boards.

Actually we can still complain about the RROD because the xbox has a 54 percent failure rate compared to the PS3's 14.7

It's really a low failure rate when compared to Xbox's 45% failure rate in the earlier generations of systems.
A .5% deficiant rate is quite low and seems an acceptable rate for any product. It seems that if Sony can compensate these very few failures with replacement systems ect. then this would be a very small problem.
