Home To Fall This Autumn News

Sony confirms that the PlayStation 3's ambitious social networking app remains on track for a 'fully-functioning' release during the Fall...

PlayStation 3

It's been delayed in the past, but Home remains on course for its "fully robust" open beta launch this Autumn, according to PlayStation Network boss, Eric Lempel.

Speaking to the US industry website Next-Gen.biz, Lempel confirmed that the open beta would provide gamers with a "fair representation" of what the ambitious social networking environment could become in the future:

"The reason we've been delaying [Home] is so that we can deliver a high quality service that the users will enjoy. Even though it will be in beta, it will be a fair representation of what the service can be and its potential, so it won't be a 0.5 release, it will be a fully robust service."

A community hub based in a virtual with personalised avatars, buildings, trophy rooms, Home looks set to tap into the ongoing obsession with social networking, which has already penetrated the web in recent years.

News of Home's continued progress behind closed doors comes just weeks after rumours emerged suggesting that a rival service called 'MyGamerpad' is in development at Microsoft.

but people have come to accept the rrod its been happening for years now unlike the yellow light of death thats not because of unreliable parts but due to a firmware update, is this an indication that sony had tried to overclock the ps3 and may have had a stable overclock but releasing a firmware update with the overclock included may have caused the trapped gas in the circuit boards.

Actually we can still complain about the RROD because the xbox has a 54 percent failure rate compared to the PS3's 14.7

good point, but who's to say the complaints wont keep coming in? could easily be a majour fault in the system.

but i aint gettin called a fanboy again so ill stick with ur comment =) lets just hope sony can address the problem like microsoft did with the enw motherboards they were using

It's really a low failure rate when compared to Xbox's 45% failure rate in the earlier generations of systems.

A .5% deficiant rate is quite low and seems an acceptable rate for any product.  It seems that if Sony can compensate these very few failures with replacement systems ect. then this would be a very small problem.
