SCEE Celebrate Early Christmas News

Sony Computer Entertainment UK (SCE UK) today announced that it has passed the landmark figure of shipping over 5 million Playstation2 units within the UK.<br><br>Despite growing concern over the future of the Playstation2, the format goes from strength to strength in the UK, with sales of the market-leading console growing faster then the PSOne by a ratio of 2.6:1.<br><br>“We are delighted to reach and pass the 5 million mark,” said Ray Maguire, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment UK, “There are still big weeks to come as Christmas looms. The rate of sale is incredible even and shows that PlayStation 2 remains the console of choice. Our established market leadership position has no doubt been bolstered by having the largest amount of games and a growing online presence (the current top three games in the All Formats Chart all feature exclusive compatibility with PlayStation 2 network gaming service. We would like to extend a warm thank you to all our trade partners who have helped us to achieve this new milestone.”<br><br>With Christmas still to come it’s fair to say things will only get better for Sony; however it’s fair to say the victory was won months ago, the head start given to the Playstation2 was simply too big for either Microsoft or Nintendo to catch up – however we’re expecting a different story in 2006.
